Icebergs

Thank you for visiting my site. I hope that over the forthcoming months you will see this site as a source of information, some inspiration and perhaps more likely stories about pain some failure but several successes.

I guess the first question to answer is why I am attempting this! The truth is that having thought the plans laid out by Phil Jeffs last year (See his site) the plan whilst obscure seemed to have merit. I then like many received the after event details which I am now convinced I viewed through rose tinted spectacles.

One thing that will become apparent though over the forthcoming months is just how stubborn I am to succeed! Hopefully you will follow me through the highs and lows of training with the final chapter being the completion of the 2007 SPRI challenge.

In short the challenge consists of sledging over 250 kilometres from our base camp into the wilds of Norway. Our route begins 120 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle, with the finish being almost 200 kilometres within it!!

The most interesting quote I have received about my attempts to date is; "you could be to this challenge what Jade Goody was to the London Marathon". I have convinced myself that these were in fact kind and sincere words set to inspire as Jade raised an awful lot for charity!?

Husky Sledge
Unfortunately the one thing that Phil forgot to mention prior to my signing up is that next years challenge is earlier in the year and consequently in the Arctic winter with comensurately lower average temperatures!!

The Scott Polar Research Institute is a world-renowned Institute within the University of Cambridge, linking the history of polar exploration with modern research in both polar regions

The Scott Polar Research Institute was formed in 1920 as a memorial to Captain Scott and his colleagues and is now a major international centre for polar research, information and expertise. From its base in Cambridge, the Institute provides a service to scientists, explorers, governments, industries, polar inhabitants and even armchair travelers the world over.

Please be assured that those of you who know me well I will come knocking for sponsorship at some point and for those that don't this is an excellent cause (for more details follow the link on the image to the left) and as such any sponsorship / support would be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Scott Wylie
